Why January 14?

The 14th of January has a connection with two great mathematicians and philosophers named Alfred Tarski and Kurt Godel.

Alfred Tarski

Alfred Tarski was born on January 14, 1901. He was a logician and polish-American mathematician. After graduating from Warsaw university he became a member of the Warsaw school of logic and mathematics. In 1939, he moved to the United States and carried out his research in mathematics at the University of California in Berkeley. His birth anniversary is celebrated as World Logic Day.

Alfred Tarski is often named among the four greatest logicians of all time. He admired  Charles Sanders Pierce for his great work in Logic of Relations. He worked on the deductive system, theory of definability, logical consequence, and logic of Algebra. He developed an abstract theory of logical deductions that resembles some properties of logical calculi in 1930. Some other admirable achievements are theories of truth, logical constraints, and philosophy.
